Six jams – cherry, strawberry, mandarin, fig, plum with cinnamon, agrumi di Salina (mixed citrus), blackberry – all home-made. Cake, still warm from the oven. Toast. Freshly made apricot juice. Or peach juice. Or plum juice. Or grapefruit and mint juice. Thick with fruit and cold. Mandarin preserved in syrup with chopped pistachios. A plate piled high with apricots and figs. And one expresso followed by another. Who could resist? No wonder my weight-loss programme is not going according to plan.
